April 16th 2015

April 16th, 2015; It was a beautiful spring day in Fort McMurray. While waiting to attend the NAABA Business showcase, my team and I decided to do a Heli-tour of the Oilsands (Thanks again, Pheonix Heli-Flight). It was breathtaking to see all of the construction underway and the operations that were running. I especially enjoy seeing development, because I have a clear understanding of the process, and what it takes to make these projects happen. It was cool seeing Husky Sunrise, Imperial Kearl Lake, Suncor Firebag, Shell Albian and all of the surrounding camps from the air. I liked seeing my old worksites and camp "homes". (To be honest, I got a craving for the coco puff squares that Noralta Firebag has in the dessert area.)

After the hour long tour, we headed to Mac Island (MacDonald Island) to attend the NAABA business showcase. The new addition to that facility is amazing!. For the business showcase- our guest speaker was DJ Vanas, His speech and the way he delivered it was awesome, inspiring and quite funny. I look forward to seeing him again soon.  After the showcase, there was an evening reception, where we got to rub elbows with fellow Indigenous owned businesses, such as; Acden, ESS, Surmont, TAWS Security, White Wolf Services, Wapose and Tansi, just to name a few. We also had the pleasure of meeting Industry representatives from; CNRL, Imperial, Suncor and Syncrude. I really enjoyed the conversations, feedback, tips and advice from everyone.  What an awesome day! I certainly look forward to the next one!
